HOW TO FAKE DARKER HAIR IN BETWEEN DYES

December 19, 2019 By Kari 9 Comments

I’ve always been known to color my hair a shade or two darker during the fall and winter months. There’s just something I love about the subtle change that sets the mood for the new season! This year, I colored my hair a bit earlier than normal due to travels, so I needed a solution on how to achieve darker hair in between my colors. Since I try to only color my hair two times a year, this quick solution has been a lifesaver in the last month to help me achieve the look I want until my next color.

Solution: Color your 100% hair extensions a shade or two darker and seamlessly blend the two together so that your hair looks darker altogether.

I’m excited to be teaming up with Schwarzkopf® Keratin Color, available at Walmart, today to walk you through the steps I take to achieve a richer and darker hair color using only my extensions. The extensions I use are 100% real human hair extensions.

The Pre-Color Serum leaves your hair healthy-looking and strong and reduces breakage up to 80% vs untreated hair. I’m not too specific when applying the serum, I just ensure it’s covering the tips of the hair. Once the serum is applied, I will move onto step 2.

Now, this is the fun part! After you ensure your 2a and 2b mixture is shaken up and completely mixed, you promptly need to apply the product to your hair. For my extensions, I always start at the tips and work my way up to the root. When I’m coloring my real hair, I always start at the root and work my way towards the ends. This is personal preference and as long as each strand gets covered with color, you should be good to go.

Once the hair is covered in color, I let it sit for 30 minutes, however, I recommend you follow the package instructions.

Color I used: 4.0 Cappuccino

Once your waiting time is up, rinse out all of the color with lukewarm water. Do not use shampoo! Once your water stream is clear, apply the K-Bond-Plex Conditioner to your extensions. I typically let this set in for about 3 minutes and rinse again. Next, towel dry your hair and style as normal.

And voila! Your hair coloring process is complete! For more color inspiration see here.

That’s such a good trick for between dyes! I don’t dye my hair, but so many of my friends do so I’ll have to let them know about this little trick! Xx.

I’ve heard from several women that really like this product. Good instructions on how to use.

What a creative idea! I don’t have extensions, but if I did, I’m sure it would be quite the task to color them even close to my hair color. I have a red/purple/rose gold balayage – so finding the right shade can be tricky. But I’ve heard Schwarzkopf has a wide color range!
